Delegation to Study Relationships in Cuba

On Sunday Oct. 30, Brown Memorial commissioned a delegation of members who are traveling to Cuba for six days this month. They will study the potential for Brown to be in further relationship with churches in the country.

From Nov. 9-15, Deb Baer, Fred Cogswell and Jody Shaw will visit Camajuani and Placetas, Cuba, and five churches within the El Centro Presbytery. The Presbytery of Baltimore currently has a partnership with El Centro, and specifically eight churches within the Presbytery of Baltimore have relationships with churches in El Centro.

A member of the Presbytery of Baltimore will travel with the Brown delegation to act as a guide and translator. The Brown delegation’s trip is partially funded by a grant from the Tiffany Mission Dream Fund, which is supported by Brown’s Tiffany Series.

Deb visited Cuba in 2015 with the Presbytery of Baltimore (The photo above was taken on the trip. Deb is on the far right in blue.) and plans to visit again in February 2017. She has also traveled to Guatemala with the Presbytery.

“I have a love for international mission and especially Central and South America,” she says, but adds that more people within Brown need to be called to mission in Cuba to make a future relationship possible and sustainable. Discernment on the issue will take place not only during the trip, but also when the delegation returns.

“We’ll see where it takes us,” she says.
