Martha Socolar

TUTORING PROGRAM DIRECTOR 410.523.1542 x 108

Martha came to the Brown Memorial Tutoring Program in 2001 after working at The Maryland Historical Society and The Baltimore City Life Museums. There, she realized how much she enjoyed working with school children who came to the museums on class trips.

While pursuing a graduate degree in Elementary Education, Martha met Sharon Winternitz, then the Assistant Director of the Brown Memorial Tutoring Program. Because of a special interest in teaching reading and a desire to help underprivileged children, Martha signed up to be a volunteer and two years later she became Sharon’s Assistant Director. She became the Director after Sharon retired in 2008.

Martha is married to Serge Socolar and they have two grown children, Madeleine and David.
