“Mindfulness” Prepares Tutoring Program Students to Learn

“Close your eyes and listen as far outside as you can. Listen for the birds or a car driving by. Now listen in the building…listen for the children laughing downstairs. Now listen in the room … for the clock ticking. Now listen for your heartbeat … and breathe.”
This might sound like a yoga class, but the students in the Brown Memorial Tutoring Program are starting their sessions with a 5-minute mindfulness exercise, preparing their minds and bodies for concentration and work with their tutors.

Tiffany Series Co-Hosts Panel Discussion March 26, 3 p.m.

The Tiffany Series at Brown Memorial and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) invite the community to a panel discussion entitled “Faith Matters: Religion and the LGBTQ Community in Fractious Times.” This event will be presented at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, at Brown Memorial. Delegate Mary Washington will serve as moderator, and participants represent Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist faith communities.

Resources Available for Lenten Spiritual Practice

As in years past we will have a variety of devotional materials available for use during the season of Lent. The Adult Education class will draw on one of these resources, Walter Brueggemann’s devotional entitled, A Way Other Than Our Own, as well as the scripture referenced within it. We encourage those participating to consider using this devotional as part of their Lenten spiritual practice.
