The Good Friday Tenebrae service is an opportunity to sit with the growing darkness of Jesus’ arrest, condemnation, and execution. The word “tenebrae” is Latin for darkness or shadows, and this is reflected in a service that progresses from dim light to total darkness amid prayer, music and waiting for the light of Easter Sunday. (Note: the darkness of this service may be unsettling to some young children.)
