Gospel Portraits of Jesus
Every week on Sunday until May 15, 2022 from 9:30a to 1:00p
Organizer: Michele Ward

"Regardless of what anyone may personally think or believe about him, Jesus of Nazareth has been the dominant figure in the history of Western culture for almost twenty centuries. If it were possible, with some sort of supermagnet, to pull out of that history every scrap of metal bearing at least a trace of his name, how much would be left? It is from his birth that most of the human race dates its calendars, it is by his name that millions curse, and in his name that millions pray." -- Jaroslav Pelikan, Jesus Through The Centuries

In a Sunday worship service, we read only snippets from one gospel or another. What we miss is the total sweep of that gospel writer’s intention. We also miss the unique “portrait” of Jesus that each gospel presents. What do they show about him and what picture do they intend?

This four week study led by the Rev. Jack Hodges will explore the dynamic of these “portraits” in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They are dynamic, fascinating and each unique. Our goal is for your reading of the good news to become more vibrant, alive and robust.

Session I, April 24: Gospel Beginnings - What? Who? And Why? How do the Gospels mix and match ... or don’t?
