Frederick Binkholder, though new to Brown Memorial, is a conductor and voice teacher with decades of experience in the music of the church. As a candidate for the position, he was impressed by the search committee’s professionalism and dedication, but was also struck by the choir and congregation’s friendliness and warmth. At Brown, Frederick will serve as the Director of Music Ministry and Chancel Choir, and he is looking forward to weaving himself into the fabric of the church, connecting with other ministries, and offering support where needed. He is also excited to continue Brown’s rich history of musical excellence by selecting anthems of stunning diversity and inspired composition.

Frederick is the Director of Vocal Studies at Georgetown University and Artistic Director of the Capitol Hill Chorale. Though he considers DC home, he is looking forward to becoming involved in the life of Brown Memorial and Baltimore itself.

His wife, Mikyoung, is also a professional musician, and their son, Han, is a Junior at Peabody Institute, where he studies French Horn.

Must-Know Info about Frederick:

Loves to walk and has enjoyed getting to know Baltimore (though he still needs to visit Poe’s grave and find Cab Calloway’s home).
