Brown Memorial recently erected a banner outside the church provided by Faithful America, the largest and fastest-growing online community of Christians putting faith into action for social justice.
The Diversity Committee requested permission from the church to obtain and display the banner in solidarity with immigrants and refugees, who are being made to feel afraid and unwelcome in the current political climate. It is being done in keeping with the committee’s mission to ensure that all who enter (or even pass by) our church feel welcome.
Page Campbell, Diversity Committee chair, notes, “From my personal point of view, it also highlights the fact that Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus were immigrants and refugees who had to flee to Egypt to escape Herod’s wrath. Also, it lights a candle against the growing darkness.”
