City Love Series in February: Community Arts

We’re dedicating our entire post-worship panel series this year to opportunities and challenges facing Baltimore City.

This month, we are talking about the strengths and challenges of public art in the community. On  Sunday, Feb. 28, at 12:30 p.m., our panel of guests will include:

  • Maggie Villegas – As an arts producer and community leader, Ms. Villegas currently works for the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts.  She partnered with Jubilee Arts this past summer to create the Art@Work Mural Project in Sandtown-Winchester.
  • Ernest Shaw – Mr. Shaw is a native-born artist who works in multiple mediums.  One of his primary themes is the duality of the African American experience.  Mr. Shaw holds degrees from Morgan State and Howard University and is now a teacher in Baltimore City.
  • Audacious Hopkins – Ms. Hopkins is a senior at the Academy for College and Career Exploration (ACCE) and a resident of Sandtown-Winchester.  She worked as a student with Art@Work this past summer and is currently a youth organizer with the Baltimore Youth Organizing Project, as well as an artist.
