Brown Memorial and the Baltimore Youth Organizing Project (BYOP) Hold the Mayor to Her Promises

Since 2015, Brown Memorial has provided staff support and financial contributions to the Baltimore Youth Organizing Project (BYOP), a youth-led community organizing initiative created by BUILD and the No Boundaries Coalition. This month, BYOP has been meeting with Baltimore’s Mayor and the City Council to advocate for youth jobs and after-school program funding.

Holy Week Activities and Services

During Holy Week, April 9-16, our activities and services will include a Palm Procession on Palm Sunday, a Taize service, a Maunday Thursday supper and service, a Good Friday Tenebrae service, and an Easter sunrise service followed by the regular 11 a.m. worship service.

“Mindfulness” Prepares Tutoring Program Students to Learn

“Close your eyes and listen as far outside as you can. Listen for the birds or a car driving by. Now listen in the building…listen for the children laughing downstairs. Now listen in the room … for the clock ticking. Now listen for your heartbeat … and breathe.”
This might sound like a yoga class, but the students in the Brown Memorial Tutoring Program are starting their sessions with a 5-minute mindfulness exercise, preparing their minds and bodies for concentration and work with their tutors.
